What is HEIC and why does my iPhone use it?
HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is Apple's default photo format since iOS 11. It produces files roughly half the size of JPEG at similar quality, saving storage on your device. However, many websites, apps, and Windows programs still do not support HEIC natively.
