Named versions
Accessing the Versions panel
To access the Version History Panel, simply click on the icon located on the left-hand side of your screen. See the yellow hand icon in the image below.
Version Types
On the version panel, you will see the list of autosaved versions and the named version of the project.
- Autosaved version: These versions are created automatically by the editor. Whenever your file is edited, a new version is created. For each version, you will be able to see the contributor's name and the time of creation.
- Named version: Kappa lets you name a particular autosaved version. Think of it as a checkpoint of your progress or a variant of the project.
Creating named version
Click on the plus icon on top of the panel to create a named version. Enter the name of your version and press enter key to save it. After that, it will appear in the named version list.
Kappa Tip
It is advisable to create named versions of the project at certain points as it helps to keep track of all the checkpoints and helps you go live with different versions.
Restoring a version
You can always go back in time and restore a version. It doesn't matter if they are named or not. Simply select the version you want to restore and hit the "Restore" option. This will revert your project to the state it was in at the time the selected version was created.
While restoring Kappa will automatically save your current draft as a version with the prefix "Before restore- ".
Publishing & named versions
To publish the project, it needs to have at least one named version. You can simply go and create a link by assigning a named version to it. As your project evolves over time, you can assign a new named version to the already published link. This enables fast iteration with zero downtime.
